Beyond Agriculture
Educating and sensitizing the younger generation about the importance of food security
Initiative in Nigeria's Food Security
Nigeria's Food Security Project faces a major issue: the average age of farmers in key agricultural states is 52, meaning many will retire within the next decade. To tackle this, the "Beyond Agriculture" initiative was launched on July 2, 2004, at the University of Abuja. It aims to educate young people on food security, emphasizing that it's more than just agriculture and involves many stakeholders. Youth engagement in this value chain is critical for the future of food security in Nigeria.

The Unveiling Narrative:
Empowering Youth in
Food Security
The "Beyond Agriculture" initiative within Nigeria's Food Security Project calls for collective action to involve the younger generation in the food security value chain and agricultural production. By embracing this narrative, we can bridge the generational gap, empower youth, and build a sustainable agricultural sector. Let’s transform universities into hubs of knowledge, innovation, and action, harnessing youthful energy to overcome food insecurity and ensure a prosperous, nourished Nigeria for future generations.
